In a bid to ensure sanity on our roads and check accidents and resultant loss of lives this yuletide season, a non-governmental none profit organization, Lifeline Initiative has held a road safety awareness walk and dance aerobics to sensitize Nigerians to be road safety conscious.

During the walk in Abuja, the executive director of the organization, Martin Agunwa, said the event with support from Greenlight Initiative, Chevron, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Defence Headquarters, medical and other well-meaning road safety advocacy groups was to say no to road traffic crashes.

Lifeline Initiative is organizing a road safety awareness walk and dance aerobics. We are doing this because we are in the festive season and while the festive season is supposed to be a period of celebration, we also know this is the period a lot of accidents happen because a lot of people are travelling. So, we are doing this to raise awareness because we don’t want these accidents to happen.

As you are award, Lifeline is into first aid care to road crash victims. We come to the scene when there is an accident but we don’t want these accidents to happen in the first place. So, we’ve gathered people today to spread the message of road safety, that it is important for us to be careful on the roads so these accidents do not happen and we can all celebrate Christmas and beyond with our friends and loved ones,” he said.

We know we’re in the yuletide season and everything we can do to save lives on the road should be done. The Lifeline and the Greenlight Initiative have done a great work today by inviting other NGOs that work with the FRSC to make sure this awareness is carried out. We are happy it is done and we are assuring the public with this kind of sensitization there will be no much road traffic crashes on our roads,” he added.

He advised those travelling to be careful on the steering, observe the speed limit and every precautionary measure put in place by the FRSC for their safety and that of their loved ones.
