TULSI Charai Foundation has provided free cataract eye surgery for about 2,504 residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs.
Director, Tulsi Chanrai group, Kennan Narayanan said the center had also performed more than 700 highly subsidised eye surgeries and conducted 96 rural eye camps at which over 14,000 persons were screened.
According to Narayanan, the hospital, which was commissioned last year by President Muhammadu Buhari, had focused on helping marginalised communities with over 70 per cent discount in charges.
He said:”This hospital has served more than 34, 000 persons during its one-year existence. Our objective is to ensure patients who cannot afford the cost to have their eyes restored. Our team goes to communities to conduct free eye screening and bring them to the hospital for surgery. For those who could afford to pay, we take out of money paid by those who could afford it to subsidise”.
An ex-serviceman, Mr. Adullahi said: “I did the surgery on one of my eyes here and am back for surgery on the second eye and I haven’t pay a dime for treatment.”
